Millie

* * *

So many words had exited my mouth. Words I hadn’t been able to control or keep inside. My cheeks burned, my throat ached, and my body thrummed with awareness.

Wanting Luka the way I had—did—left me slightly crazed. He was everything I dreamed of in a man, but always outside my reach thanks to my sheltered upbringing, my innate shyness, my issues with Trent.

His eyes smoldered as he heaved a breath, then another one. “We’re connected already, you and I, forever.” He laid his hands on my belly. I bit my lip as I nodded.

“But this is more than our love for our daughter—you understand that now?” He eased closer to me, his big body sheltering mine.

With Luka, I always felt safe. Now wanted. Maybe one day loved.

I licked my lips, noting his eyes tracking my movement. My breath stilled, my heart pumping. “Luka. Please.”

I wasn’t sure, exactly, what I was begging him for—to ease the tension between us, to show me he cared, asking him to take me, flaws and all, and hold me forever.

“I got you, Millie.” His eyes sparkled. I loved how he brought us back around to our first meeting. His hands flexed on my belly and slid upward to cup my breasts. I whimpered as I pressed more firmly into his hold.

“We got this, together.” He bent his knees, bringing his face closer to my level. His gaze searched mine, eyes filled with emotions I couldn’t process. “You and me and Bree. We’re a team. The most important team.”

He flicked his thumbs over my nipples, and my knees turned to water. I didn’t worry, though. Luka would hold me up, keep me safe. That’s what he was promising right now, and I desperately wanted to hand him control—not just of my body but of the craziness that was my life.

“Yes,” I whispered.

Again, I wasn’t sure what I was trying to tell him. I took a deep breath, holding it for a long moment as his hands worked their magic over my body. I tried to clear my head and think about what I wanted to tell him—what I needed to say. What we had, what we were building was important. For Bree, but for and to me. I wanted him to feel the same…wanted him to know how I felt about us. I licked my lips more slowly this time, enjoying the power of my femininity as Luka watched, his own breath catching.

“I want you,” I said.

“Just now?” he demanded.

I shook my head, not breaking eye contact. This moment was momentous—an alteration for us in a relationship of shifts. “I wanted you then, always, but I thought you’d…”

He growled, and goose bumps exploded over my skin. He was dominance, power restrained. At least with me.

“I wanted you then,” I said more firmly, “and I want you now. More because I know how thoughtful and decent you are. I’ll always want you.”

“Good.” He kissed me. Like his earlier kisses, this one was fierce, possessive, and it lit me up.
